The Picture of Dorian Gray

Wilde's Dorian Gray is probably one of the best book's i've read. Not just the beautiful writing from it's skillful author, but the philosophy it carries, the mind that carried all those actions. To understand Gray's way of thinking is understanding how he made Lord Henry's mindset his, with a small touch of his own vanity. I red the book both because I knew it was a great reading and because I heard about the clear romantic subplots. As I finished it, I saw it clear, they were there, but they weren't the most important part of the work. Still, I really enjoyed them, as they were mostly all truly different one from each other. Lord Henry was clearly interested in Dorian, not just for his physical beauty, bur from the purity of his mind, at least at the start of the book. On the other hand, Basil also likes Dorian's beauty, and surely falls in love with him, not just 'aesthetically', like I believe Henry does. Finally, I think that Dorian understands to some extent how beautiful he is, but still needs to experiment, to check truly how deep his impact on other's is, to the extent where he needs to kiss his own portait. Overall, I believe is one of my favourite books, and I really need to read it again...

Faust

Another great book. Some parts of the work are somewhat tiring and extra, since it is a 1800s book, but there are many others that are really funny and interesting. It gives many insight of the view we have of god and devil, and some common knowledge of good literature. I also read it because of Black Butler, since there are faustian contracts there too. Mephistophele's character is really great, and I really find him interesting since he is not just a representation of devil, but actual devil. And even though, his feelings, his way of being and thinking is way too similar to a human's. I believe that it is caused by the fact that devil is just fallen god with sin, and humans are created by god's image, but with sin too. So, devil is just a powerful image of humans, and so, thinks and behaves just like one. I loved the book because it mixes nicely some more philosophical and religous parts with other funnier, lighter ones, creating a great work.
